Bash Walio, Second Overall at the Crested Butte Ultra

Bash Walio finished second overall at the Crested Butte Ultra 55K in 5:11:42, seven days after his application landed. 34.2 miles and 4,567 feet of climbing.

Bashash “Bash” Walio is the newest name on the Nosotros roster. He lives in Gunnison. His application landed on a Saturday in September, and the next Saturday he ran 34 miles over a mountain and finished second overall.

Bash placed 2nd overall, finishing the 55K in 5 hours, 11 minutes and 42 seconds. That’s more than 34 miles by the way. Up a mountain at 9000+ feet too by the way. Running 9 minute miles. For 5 hours. And by the way, Bash is 33 and very clearly still in his prime.

The first six miles came back at 7:34 a mile. Then the climbing started, and by mile 24 he was over Teocalli at 10:53, which is what 4,567 feet of gain does to a pace. He ran the last seven miles back into town at under seven-minute pace and finished 4:23 clear of third.

None of this is new. He won the 2024 Grand Traverse by 32 minutes, 40 miles from Crested Butte to Aspen over the Elk Mountains in 6:29:38. He has run 2:18:19 for the marathon. And he has lived in Gunnison since he turned up at Western Colorado in 2011, which is the part we care about most. Nosotros writes a lot about what training at 7,700 feet does for you. Bash has been doing it for fifteen years.

Newest on the roster. Second overall up a mountain. Welcome, Bash.
